-=> Jerome Zelinske said to Al Feyen about, "C" carriers?!? <=-
AF> Has any heard of Primeco Cellular?
AF> My wife, and I stoped at a camera store in the mall, and
AF> they were selling a new kind of cell phone, and service. It
JZ> This is a new PCS "wireless" service not cellular.
I'm confused by this. I mean if it walks like a duck and
quacks like a duck, it's a duck. As the salesmen explaind
it Primeco uses towers and cells just like the others. The
cells are just bigger.
AF> is not connected with the "A" carrier (Ameritec) or the "B"
AF> carrier (Cell One) in this area. (The Greater Chicago Metro
JZ> Hi neighbor, I'm from Milwaukee.
Hi, how's the weather up there.
AF> Area) So this has to be the third cellular company that I
AF> had heard was coming to the Chicago area about a year ago.
JZ> As usual competition is good, there will be a second PCS provider
JZ> soon, Sprint.
So that will give us four choices for portable phones,
Great, maybe the price will go down.
AF> The Salesmen told us that the phones can not be cloned, or
AF> listened in on, because they were a spcial digital setup,
AF> and at 1900 MHz.
JZ> My guess is that Primeco uses CDMA, and I know that Sprint is CDMA
JZ> only no analogue, the ESN is digitally encryped, and the voices are
JZ> also digital.
From what I have heard of digital communication, I want to
stay away from it.
AF> He said at this time, there was no roaming, except for parts
AF> of the states of Wisconsin, and Texas.
JZ> Primeco has licenses in only 6 states. No roaming in other states.
JZ> Sprint has all 50 states. And the last info I had on Cellular roaming
JZ> was a nationwide average of $4 per day and $1 per minute, however the
JZ> Sprintnet will be .50 per minute without any additional daily or long
JZ> distance. The only temporary limit is that the full nationwide net
JZ> will not be compleated until mid 1998.
The salesmen said there was no Roaming charges with Primeco
at all.
Thank You
