It's my understanding that the L4B will work on 12 and 17 meters at
reduced power (run it in the CW position). 30 meters is power
restricted. Definitely run it on 220, and have your 220 drop
professionally installed unless you are knowledgable about selecting
breaker and wire sizes to match the load. Be _DARN_ careful with the
end of the PS cable that has that big 8-pin Cinch conenctor on it; in
fact, you might want to pop the shell off the connector and check
things out before you power it up. Mine either had a short or some
carbon tracking inside the connector, and while it worked fine when I
brought the amp up slowly on a variac wired for 110v, the conenctor
literally shot sparks and flames when I fired it up on 220. (Yes, it
was jumpered correctly).

Run a couple of cooling fans on top the PS, those huge resistors put
out a lot of heat. Someone advised me to replace a smaller resistor in
the PS as a safety precaution, can't remember the specifics off the
top of my head (except that if it fails, the ALC pot goes bye-bye), but
I am sure someone else will chime in.

The stock VOX relay connector is unobtanium, but easy to work around.
Put a snubber diode across the relay coil. Folks didn't think much
about that stuff in the 'old days'. Rich Measures' 'glitch protection'
mods also look like they could be worthwhile. Oil the blower motor.

Generally speaking, I like the way the beast is built. Good luck, and
let us know.

Jim (still looking for that PS connector)
