Quoting Perry Smith to Jean Parrot

BC> Message Editor Cmd {at}C:\WS6\WS.EXE /N {at}F
JP> Second, what is the /N doing in that line ? And the {at}F ?
PS> I was going to ask the same thing about /N.
The {at}F is the temp file name of the msg that is sent to the
editor.
The /N, as far as I can tell, is not a switch bwave recognizes,
nor is it needed for the msg editor. An external editor just needs
the {at}F. /N normally is used to pass the bbs node, but you are not
in the bbs when in the bwave reader. I suppose the /N might be a
switch for WS.EXE, but have no idea what it might be. Some editors
need a switch for wordwrapping to be activated, so /N it might be
along that line of thinking. At any rate, check the ws docs to see
if /N is an actual switch.
I don't mean to be condescending, and this is not directed at you,
Perry, but over the years and even the last week, I've seen people
still having problems and wanting answers to getting the archivers
to work with bwave.
It is quite simple folks. I have 2 directories which I always add
to any computer I set up, right after I install the os, any os.
They are \archivers and \utils and I put both directories in the
PATH statement.
In \archivers, I place every archiver I have. There are no naming
conflicts, so you can have zip, arj, arc, pak, lha, rar, zoo, etc
all in it. In \utils is put any dos utils such as qedit,
sharespell, list, edit, etc.
When you install bwave, it will check the path statement dirs
for archivers. It will automatically fill in all the archiver
commands, if it finds them within the dirs in the path. All of
'em!!
Not only bwave, but many other apps look for the various archivers
in the path. Placing pkzip in the bwave dir will work, but it is
far better to have that \archiver dir and have it in the path.
Likewise with text editors. A lot of apps look in the path for
them, so make that dir for all your editors and odds and ends apps
and most of your woes will be gone.
And everytime you get a new puter, religously make those 2 dirs,
fill them, and add to the path
Cheers...
