I just had to cross post this message from my best friend Barbara O'keefe
....... She said all the things I needed to hear and would have liked to have
said myself.

Baby was definitely NOT a baby in size nor in actions. Baby was a horse I
ad
grown to love and admire. She definitely was a regal lady, princess, dowager
queen....all names appropriate, yet no name can describe her truly.
I used to sing to her, "Baby, baby can't you hear my heart beat, you're the
one I love." Jean would sing "Baby Face" to her. She would eat up all the
attention, and if could have smiled she would have, smiled at two adult women
making absolute fools of themselves, singing to a horse.
She was given love, and gave love in return. It has only been in the past
year, that she gave me a little of that love and she showed it. Everytime
the Carrot Lady arrives at Byte Size Estates and goes to the barn, all the
horses know it is carrot and spoiling time, Baby was no exception.
She would stand in her stall, her head gazing in my direction, practically
begging for her "treat"....it had to be a carrot though, or lately an
apple...no sugar cubes for the Queen!
When I first met/saw her I was petrified. She was a HUGE horse, and that
alone intimidated me. But she was a gentle horse by nature, asserting her
authority as "boss horse" only when necessary and then, only by "that LOOK"
or a snap. The rest of the herd obeyed!
It broke my heart when she got sick, and saw how uncoordinated she was.
Medicine saved her, but I think she also saved herself.....she did it for
Jean, she would do anything for Jean. She had her good and bad days, as we
all do, but her will to live was great.
I can still see her standing at the gate, when I called to her, her ears
would stand straight up and look right at me, when Jean or Buddy whistled she
came.
It's hard to describe my feelings for Baby, but I know she knew I loved her.
This message began by telling you about singing songs and will end with this
thought:
Whenever I hear "Beautiful Beautiful Brown Eyes" I will remember Baby and
those hauntingly beautiful kind eyes of hers.....one of a kind, with no
replacement.
