Actually, I really feel I should apologies for those remarks to both parties. 
Neither comment had any substance, I was just making a stupid remark that did
not come across as I intended.

My apologies and I’ll try to remember that when something is typed out, it
doesn’t always come across the same way as if you had verbal said it.
