the last time i tried messing with it was in 2013... i went back to the
original config after the utf-8 stuff didn't work as expected/desired... i
don't recall exactly what it was that "wasn't right" but whatever it was i
didn't like...

it should be easy enough to look at and correct if needed... i never really
understood those translation files as anything other than a max of 255 entries
listing "original character" and "translated character" on one line with two
files for two way translation... that's why you can't translate from utf-8 back
to anything else... it has more than 255 characters...

you don't have a DEFAULTREAD CP437 set? if there's a message with no CHRS or
similar, it'll be assumed to be 437 which should be translated easily...
