Hi, Nancy...
NB>I suspect we'll never know... ;) I THINK, though, that we are back on
NB>track now, both of us... A few days before I left on my trip, the bbs I
NB>send DADS and ASIAN_LINK messages from went down inexplicably, and
NB>wasn't back up until I got back from my trip. I sent the reply packet
NB>I'd prepared over the few days before leaving finally AFTER I got
NB>back... ;) Turned out he'd had a massive crash... thankfully he's back
NB>up and running well again. :)
The Sysops worst nightmare...a massive system crash. :( Been there,
done that...which reminds me...I need to make another data backup. :P
NB>We come to the hobby from different places... :) I came for genealogy,
NB>where real names are the lifeblood of the area... :) Games (mostly word
NB>types or trivia) were an addition... as was getting somewhat involved in
NB>messaging in the local areas, getting to know the other users and the
NB>sysop better. It helped that the sysop of that early board was a
NB>friendly sort, and encouraged good interaction. :)
I got my start in BBSing on one that was run by the Computer Science
Department at the University Of Arkansas At Little Rock. That's where I
first met Janice Harvey...who would become my wife many years later. If
that BBS is still in existence, it's for the computer science users now.
As best as I can tell, my BBS is the only one left in Arkansas. I
thought I had a file on the BBS with the program that I ran "The World's
Smallest BBS" on my Radio Shack TRS-80 Model 100 laptop, but could not
locate it this morning. I guess I have to dig into an older backup to
find it...or I might be able to Google it.
NB>We get that, too... nothing but rain in the forecast, but look out the
NB>window and there's sun and maybe some clouds... ;)
I wish that was Arkansas' weather...but we're in the midst of our
spring Tornado Season now, and the BBS ends up being offline more than
online, to protect from lightning damage.
NB>... BBS? Yeah, I do bbs. But I can control it ...
Really...considering mine is the only one I logon to.
Daryl
