Hi Jack,
I can say I only remember one equivalent to it way back. It
was actually 3 storms of freezing rain, one after the other basically.
I may have to retract my 3 inch of ice on everything. They have been
using graders and bulldozers to tear off the ice of sidewalks and
streets, the chunks in some places are more like 6 to 8 inches thick.
Things are at least getting back to normal for most people, though
some are still without power in the hardest hit areas and are expected
to be without for the next 10 days. As for the good it did in most
cases, in some cases no. There were widespread stories of price
gouging. Some hotels tripled their prices etc, stores were stripped
of items like candles, batteries etc. A list of the gouging offenders
is seriously being drawn up and will be investigated. All of this did
show one thing, how dangerously dependent we are on all our systems
and how fragile they are.........
Happy Trails,
Fred.
