Harvey, I couldn't agree with you more! That was a worse than misserable
experience.
 
When I traveled with United some years ago, I had my cane taken away on
some flights, and nothing was said on others.  Delta and Northwest are the 
major
airlines out of here other than United.  If United is one of my choices, I'll
automatically take one of the other airlines even if I pay more.  I have
had no problems with Delta or Northwest.  I'm not saying problems haven't
occurred with these carriers, but I believe they are preferrable to United.
 
I hope this nonsense will be resolved quickly!
