I have much less experience time in music but I think all the bands you
mention are relatively known, although I don't necessarily know them
well. In the last months I've been more and more in contact with very
obscure and original music, in the Prog/Fusion/Zeuhl styles, thanks to
my friend who owns the best musicshop on Earth.
MB>> Do you know any of those formats:
MB>> .MOD .S3M .IT .XM .MTM .669 .HSC .STM .FAR .WOW etc.. ?
MC> I have heard of .MOD but none of the others.
Others use the same basic idea for making music.. MOD was just the
starting point: its most known revision (but not the first) is the one
with 31 8-bit instruments and 4 channels. Formats have tried to expand
to greater possibilities, like 6, 7, 8, 12, 16, 25, 32, 64 channels,
16-bit instruments, maximum 99 or 255 instruments, more maximum lines
per pattern, stereo panning, surround sound, more effects, and way more
versatility in the already existing effects.

MC> these do not use it to make music with. Sorry.
What kind of computer do you use?
MC> When you say "tracker" what exactly are you referring to?
Music-Composing software. "S‚quenceur" in french, which reminds me that
trackers are also known as sequencers. If you ever seen a standard MOD
editor, it looks like this. Our music sheets actually look like
spreadsheets and databases, with all those note names, volumes,
octaves, instrument numbers, effect codes.
