Setting the scene:
Windows 95b workstations are running Novell Client32.
Workstations primary login server is Novell 4.11.
There is a NT4.0 server on the network.
The NT4.0 server has FTNW running.
Problem:
I can login (or map) to the NT_FPNW server and see
the root of the volume and the folders and files
on the root of the volume. At this point I'm using
'explorer' to navigate the network.
When I open a folder on the NT_FPNW volume,
all the folders are duplicated! I cannot open
any other folders at this point.
Sometimes (and it is not consistent) one of the
duplicated folders will lose the 'folder icon' and
have the 'unassociated icon' displayed.
I created a volume (path C:\) on the NT server
with FPNW. I opened the boot.ini file with Quick
View and could see the contents - but - the file name
(displayed on window title) was a series of extended
ASCII characters:
?c
The question mark in the example above, is one I could
not reproduce - it looks like a lowercase o (oh) with
a tilde over it.
If I start NotePad I get the correct filename displayed
and I can use 'File, Open' and navigate through the
entire directory structure.
A workstation using Client for Microsoft Networks and
Client for Netware Networks get 'General Network Error'
When trying to attach to the NT_FPNW server. It can
see the NT_FPNW server in the Network Neighborhood, but
that's all. I'm stuck with Novell Client anyway so it
doesn't matter, it's just something else I've tried.
I also set up a workstation on DOS 6.21 and used
Novell VLM's to login to the NT_FPNW server and had
no problems. I didn't try running Windows 3.x because
going back that way is not an option. Again, just
something else to try as a test.
HELP !!! - this one has me stumped. Has anyone seen
this behavior??
