That is part of the long term plan. Short term we just want to get the
code working under Linux like it works under the other platforms (OS/2,
DOS, Win32).

Actually, there are some areas where Max and Squish already support greater
than 8.3 file names. Under OS/2, using HPFS partitions, about the only
thing limited to 8.3 is the file names used for downloading files in the
file areas, and probably in the QWK off-line reader download file name....
The other file name usages depend on maximus filename / path limits without
forcing an 8.3 convention, from what I remember of what's setup here....

Max will need to become case sensitive for file areas under Linux -- at
least partially case sensitive. And if I can get the Linux code to compile
on my OS/2 system, we should be able to back-port stuff to OS/2. Then, if
I can get things working with Open Watacom, other back-ports (Win32) should
be doable. I'm not sure if it will be worth getting things cleaned up for
a new DOS version though.... Depends on how much effort it takes to get
the OpenWatcom environment working vs a GCC based compilation environment.
Scott used a different make sub-system with an older (commercial) watcom
compiler than what we are doing current development with....

Take care.....
