There are good reasons to prevent overriding previously defined macros
in normal use. One can easily get used to compiler error warnings and
strange and time-consuming bugs can creep in if macros are unwittingly
overriden. Ideally, it should be a compiler option, so that overriding
is allowed for special applications. How hard would it be to change the
compiler to allow that?
