Yes, that's about right. As I recall you were getting good
carrier speeds (24000 to 26,400 bit/s) Keep in mind that the phone
companies are not even required to supply the needed bandwidth on the
phone lines to allow for 28,800 bit/s carriers, so, even on a so called
'clean' line, you might not be able to consistently connect at 28,800
bit/s. And remember, it's not just your local lines that are important
here. It's every bit of line between your modem and the modem you are
calling that counts, and you will only be able to connect with a carrier
as fast as the 'weakest link' will allow.
