Subject: [Drakelist] a dumb question (or 2)

Hello all,
I have 2 T4XBs and notice that each will lose some output
after being operated for over say a half hour or more.
I can warm up the xmtr well and then tune up for say 100w ...
but notice after some operating time that the output has dropped
to say 70w. Increasing the drive will push it back up but I
wonder if this is normal or is perhaps an indication of aging tubes ?
Like I say I observe this on 2 different transmitters.

Also since I operate 99% cw I have reduced the bias so less
Idle current flows. My thought is that the tubes might last longer
but I wonder if this is good practice ?

And I frequently get reports that my cw "note" is distinctive and
superior to modern rigs. Why would this be so ? Is it a softer
shaping of the RF envelope that would account for a noticeable
difference ?

OK.....any thoughts welcome.
Hope everyone is enjoying a lazy holiday like me ! Jim N5KY
