Seems to me that QST (and the Hint and Kinks book) had an "improve your
R4B.." in. They took two xformers and the xtal filters from the T4XB and
wired into the IF. As I recall, a bit messy, but do-able w/o holes and
then reversable as long as you keep the old parts. Oh yes, and the
filters and USB/LSB switch were outside the rig via coax. If you need, I
can scan the H&K article as I am fairly sure I have that book.
