subject: Page numbering

LT> break before the start of page three (I sorta thought I read
LT> somewhere that it would make it work). I select Insert, page
LT> number, at the top of the third page, and tell it to start
LT> numbering from page 1 and to skip numbering the first page.
LT> What I get is nothing on the first page, second page
LT> numbered 2, third page numbered 1, fourth page numbered 2
LT> etc. So I'm going o.k., except that the second page has a
LT> number on it that I dont want. How do I get rid of it?
LT> Make any sense?
It sounds like you did not use a "new page" section break.
Do that and I think things will straighten out for you.
