Step 1:
Get ZoomFloppy (buy one if you don't have one and set it up properly. Follow
the
instructions. If necessary, contact Jim Brain. Once you get it working, go to
Step
2.In my opinion, ZoomFloppy is worth the price tag to use Commodore peripherals
via
USB on modern PC computers and use with the emulator.
Step 2: Download WinVICE. Load the file x64.exe or x128.exe or any C64 or C128
emulation.
Step 3: In WinVICE, go to Settings in the menu bar of WinVICE window. A drop
down
menu should appear. Click on Peripheral Settings. The Peripheral Settings
window
will appear.
Step 4:
Go to Drive 8 tab. click on the square box just to the left of Use IEC Device.
A
check mark should appear in that small square box. Also click on the circular
'bubble' to the left of None.
Test with a 1541 disk drives. Once you can load and save files to/from the 1541
disk drive
Step 5: If your hard drive uses the Commodore serial port, the hard drives
should
be a device # between 8 and 11. Repeat Step 4 with the exception that you will
use
the tab for a different drive device number if the hard drive is on another
device
number than #8. If it is device 8 then ignore Step 5 and plug the hard drive in
instead of the 1541.
I maybe missing some steps or there is slight differences between versions of
WinVICE and if you are using a non-Windows system, you may need to possibly
adjust
instruction.
