You've probably already had others explain this, but ... here goes anyway. 
Short version -- they were the "Classic" Klingons.  As some Trek groups go, 
they are referred to as "human fusion" (let's not get into that now, kay?). 
Suffice it to say, they were the Klingons who appeared in the original 
series.  (Did you notice the way the bartender referred to them as 
Kling-Gons?  That's the way the word was pronounced back then).
