TS> I have a rather eserteric question, which I hope is not 'off
TS> topic' at least not too far.
TS> Why are so many BBS operators so afraid of the internet?
I don't think it's a fear, cause most sysops I know also use the internet.
Fidonet as a whole, (at least as far as Zone 1 goes), has gone down
drastically. A lot of bbses have gone to the wayside either because users
just quit calling and went to the internet instead or the sysop decided
running a bbs wasn't worth what expenditures and hassles (s)he was having
with the bbs.
There *are* several bbses available by telnet on the internet.
TS> Some fidonet Sysops are even more afraid then many others.
I think it's more anxiety than a fear because fewer people are using bbses
these days (as far as what is seen locally and what I read from other
sops).
TS> I find that sence I got an internet account I rarely call 'out
TS> of town' bbses but I call thoes local to me about as much as
TS> I always have. I know, as my cousin is a sysop/hub in
TS> Fidonet, that to some extent fidonet and the Internet seem to

I figure fidonet and internet are two different entities, each one having
something different to offer. I can easily get a lot of files, do irc or
other
chatting, send email to other people, buy stuff on the internet... but as a
whole, the comraderie (sp?) of those in fidonet vs those in usergroups
is a lot closer (IMO). I've met a bunch of folks (even in person) in
Fidonet but not so from the internet (not just because of geographical
circumstances, because some of the people I have met in fidonet are
from Arizona, Florida, Louisiana, and other parts of the country.
