They've become so bored they have begun employing the very method of
posting their own rules forbid to others.


I've been kicking the idea of getting the software and starting my own
BBS around in my head for a few weeks now.


There are several locals in my area who once had thriving BBS's, and still
have their software.


I wouldn't have but one or two users probably, locals I `chat' with on
occasion in e-mail.


But my `source' of echo mail `feed' would be from a source completely out
of the control of Cassell or Kracht.


The monetary outlay would be a bit much, however. I'd use this computer
system I'm using here for the BBS, and need to purchase a new system,
which I'm planning on doing at the end of the year anyway, when the
prce of the system I've got my eye on comes down to the `end of the
year' price at Best Buy.


Then there'd be the cost of the software, which would be a lot less than
its original price, but still a significant amount of my monthly
income.


Yesterday I counted up the number of people participating in echoes I read
and post to in Fido, and realized I'm doing Fido for a total of around
14 or 15 people who are regulars, and two or three people who post in
Fido irregularly. And the monetary cost to me, in order to thwart the
`powers-that-be' from being able to control my access to any Fidonet
echo I choose to post in, is considerable.


In other words....the actual number of people participating do not
justify the overall cost. Which makes me wonder why you or any sysop
even bother anymore.


The Fido `powers that be' have recently become far worse than those
they have, in the past, deplored and censored for their postings.


In fact...the recent postings of one has been downright libelous in
that they have stooped to making false, un-proven accusations of
child molesting against one poster, and bestiality against another.


Their intent to belittle, insult and destroy others, in direct
opposition to the demeanor they insist the rest of us adhere to
is almost funny. Hypocrisy at its finest.
