You can read .txt in Word...  You just have to set it so it will look
for all files instead of just .doc files.  If you do any editing, and
save it, though, it will likely become a .doc file.  Unless you save as
a text file.  Once in a blue moon I have need of something like Word,
but usually everything I need is in my trusty MicroEmacs for DOS, which
only produces basic text files that you can give any 8.3 name to...  :)
