I use William McBrine's ECHOFIX to correct bad dates in Squish bases
imported via both BlueWave and Silver Express Maximus doors.  Careful:
there are other utilities named ECHOFIX that have nothing to do with fixing
grunged dates.

The trick is to make a datefix pass before you've made any attempt to scan
out the area.  Otherwise, Squish has already moved the high-water mark
passed the message with the grunged date and won't try to toss it again
later after the dates are corrected.
