To date, all of the intrinsic components of aLIVE! are functional. That
is to say, the GUI system, the EMS manager, the language pattern matcher
and parser, et cetera. All that really remains is for me to formulate the
some 1000 or so grammatical rules of PowerBASIC with the object oriented
Fermat extensions, and it is functional.
There have been several concerns, however.
First, I am concerned that the PowerBASIC community really couldn't care
less about adding object oriented extensions to the BASIC language. When
AMS asked for beta testers, we got one reply. AMS has already put in
over $50,000 in development into the component parts of aLIVE! v1.0.
If one beta tester represents, oh let's say even 100 potential end-users,
well, we won't make a red cent with aLIVE!, though we will manage to give
away a powerful extension to the BASIC language for a song to those 100
programmers who will then have what amounts to a very powerful tool in
a competitive marketplace. If 100 programmers had offered to beta, that
might have made the picture different.
When we announced aLIVE! v1.0, we were hoping someone out there would
happen to know what object oriented extensions would be about.
Nada.
