Hello Elvis:
=> -> Hope you've been well Elvis.
=>
=> Good as can be expected, as old and cranky as *I* am! And yourself?
=>
If things were any better, I'd probably have to take pills for it.
:-)
I attended the Dayton, Ohio airshow last weekend; it was the annual
Boy's Weekend away. 3 or 4 of us head for WPAFB each summer and see the
Trade Show on Friday, the airshow on Saturday and then the Museum on
Sunday and Monday.
This year, they managed a B1 and a B2 in the air the same day. The
TransWorld Starfighter was also there. Actually, this particular '104
is an ex-RCAF '104. It is a dual seat trainer.
Elvis, it has been many years indeed since last I heard the
characteristic compressor whoop of a Starfighter. He was turning onto
the active in preparation for T/O, and I could distinctly hear the whoop
as it marched across the infield; indeed, a person standing next to us
asked what that sound was.
I don't know what his indicated rate of climb was after the
transition into the vertical, but it must have been stupendous!
The next day, I entered the Museum at 0900 when it opened, and they
had to toss us out at 1700 when they closed the doors. That Museum is
truly magnificent, and is getting better all the time. The Museum says
it has acquired a Russian Bear, and intends to put it nose to nose with a
B-52 in the yet to be constructed Cold War Hangar.
As usual, it was indeed wonderful to see my old favourites there;
Fitz Fulton's XB-70 will always awe me, and the 2 Blackbirds quietly loom
on guard in separate hangars. My Dad's trusty C-119 patiently awaits a
place inside out of the elements across the way from a C-130; I believe
he had more than 10,000 hours on those 2 aircraft.
Now, if only I could get the south doors open, and get the C-47
outside. I'd sure like to go for a blast around the patch in her. She
has new tires and a new paint job. 'Looks like she just came off the
assembly line!
=> We sure are glad to have you back, and hope your connection holds.
=>
Thank you. I have made a thorough nuisance of myself with my
InterNet provider, who also has a BBS through which this link was
acquired. Evidently, I am one of the VERY FEW people in this area
wanting FIDO access; everyone is InterNet nuts.
Anyway, I shall continue to hound the poor fellow if this link
appears like it is approaching the stall again. :-)
Nice hearing from you Elvis. Do you have an E-mail address?
Regards
Ken
