Hey Benny!
BP> as i rember its a kernel boot option to make sure it select this
BP> first, or is it a .config option ?
I am no longer sure about this. Not too long ago there was a video= option but
I haven't been able to make that work lately. Only lost the penguins around
kv3.14-ish on the inteldrmfb (i915).
BP> yep i rember the g200 aswell just like the i740 :=)
g450 was the last one I had working (kv-2.4.something). I had a quad g200
before that and it was fantastic although I had to tweak it with fbset as it
was a tad different then the regular g200's. If I am not mistaken HP made that
one and was worth quite a bit of money although I got it for next to nothing.
:-)
BP> yep graphic cards have more memory today then my old commodore 64
For sure.
MK>> Same with inteldrmfb. vesafb is the same as it ever was - vga = 803
BP> so simple ?
Yes. The 8 penguins look good. :-) However I will probably go back to
running it without a keyboard and monitor soon, not unlike what I suggest for
your Soekris except no compactflash on there. Also it can hotswap drives on
the fly and also makes a great NAS. So far I really like it except the bios is
a tad slow off the draw. Also, also four networks are a tad overkill for me
but I am not complaining.
BP> Model name: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.60GHz
I had one like that except I think it was 2.8GHz.
MK> dont know the gigabit driver name
They switched to Intels. I forget offhand the model number.
BP> Model name: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2680 v2 @ 2.80GHz
I am jealous over this one. A tad pricey.
BP> some says KVM is faster :)
I had it working on a Xeon and can verify that it is. The qemu-arm one is
slower than molasses and I hear the actual cpu is faster and better than the
qemu emulated one. Personally I don't care much for emulation but it can be an
interesting distraction when one gets bored.
Life is good,
Maurice
... Don't cry for me I have vi.
