subject: Getting Max/UNIX

AI> No, I never did run "make install" more than once. I'll let it
AI> run a few times if need be..

Ok.....

BJ> I assume you ran the configure script followed by a "make build".
BJ> You could also now try the sequence "make clean",
"make build" and
BJ> then "make install".

BJ> Did you install max in the default location (/var/max)?

AI> Yes I did, and I left the paths as is..

Ok. Then you aren't hitting problems with a directory name change.... Good.

BJ> Are you running the makes from the same account that you plan to run
BJ> max on?

BJ> Does the account have complete control to create /var/max and
BJ> everything under that tree?

AI> I ran it a few different ways I'm not sure now. I believe I ran
AI> ./configure and "make build" as my default user and
"make install"
AI> as root to be sure it could create any needed directories. Next try
 AI> I'll use the bbs group/user.

You will need to 'chown user:group +r /var/max' while as root to get things
cleaned up for permissions. Some of the max code when running is very
finikey(sp?) in this area because the default of creating some files that
max has to use while running are created 600....

BJ> Have you read the 00-readme, HACKING and other documentation that
BJ> came with the distribution?

AI> I did now.. ;) In the 00-readme Wes makes mention of Bison/Yacc.
AI> I may have to install that on Mandrake from the CD. That may
AI> very well solve my problem. Thanks.. :)

If you didn't have Yacc or Bison installed, then you will not get a good
compile on the 'make build'.

Let me know how things go....

Take care.....
