We had some unusual problems with both 3.12 and 4.1 using long file names before
we upgraded to 4.11.  One of the workarounds that we found was adding an entry
to the system.ini (or was it the win.ini?) as follows:

[NWREDIR]
SupportLFN=2

Give this a try.
