I don't know.  I always did like gcc-2.95.3 and I can't see that being the
problem. However, seeing the "nawk" originally was a Debian
thing, or so I was told, then perhaps altering that in the makefile broke
it somehow?  It has me stumped considering I originally had the same
problem and showed the same error.  The edit is what fixed it.  Strange.
