The following is a proposal for a no cost way of providing awards and medals to all past and present military service members who have served or who are currently serving in the Armed Forces of the United States. Please read and post for
all veterans.
I am a Vietnam veteran who served in the military for 6 years. As with most veterans I am proud of my service and my service recortl while in the U. S. Navy. However, recognition by the military as well as the government can at times be
slow or forgetful and many situations become unnoticed. I am writing this letter on behalf of all veterans both past and present.
I have recently completed my family's military genealogy, tracing my military roots back to every war this country has been involved in including the Revolutionary War. During my search I realized that recognition to our service personnel
was non existent or rather lax. The government and/or each individual state have failed to honor those who have fought for our freedom and liberty throughout our history. I found that very few medals and awards have been made retroactive to
accommodate soldiers, sailors, marines and our fighting troops from as far back as The American Revolution.
This is understandable considering awards, medals, and badges were often time's not in existence or not a consideration due to the ferocity of battle and considered not of a necessity until after the fact. However, these brave troops did
perform in very much the same way that our troops are performing today and have been for hundreds of years and should be rewarded for their actions. For example, awards such as those given for combat action, combat infantry, sea service
deployment and foreign duty service should be made eligible to those long lost and often forgotten heroes of yesteryear. I do not represent myself in this matter but for those thousands of past, present and future veterans who deserve
recognition for their deeds and sacrifice.
The American War Library, here in california, has recently released a new web site which offers veterans a chance to gain the recognition they deserve. The web site basically allows veterans who qualify and meet the criteria for certain
medals, awards and ribbons to apply
myself on this issue but all military veterans both past and present who deserve to be recognized for there service.
There would be no cost to the military, government or taxpayer and each applying veteran would pay the full cost of the authorization and award. Please look at the enclosed material for Operation Retroactive Recognition which fully explains
the program. I and other veterans are asking for your support in getting this program up and running. We need your help in Washington and encourage you to help us get this proposed legislation passed.
As you can see I am very interested in our veterans and our national security. I would greatly appreciate your office keeping me advised of any veteran's issues that your office is concerned about. I will, in turn convey all information to
all veterans I come in contact with. Thank you.
