Right now my main Linux based bbs package is Synchronet. Thats
mainly because I wanted to keep the telnetters happy. But it also have
the ability to directly access my cnews newspool from the bbs.

 Ok.

Agreed! Although if you listen to some of the people out there
in telnet land there is alot of hostility to dialup only bbs's though.
Especially those telnet boards that leave the telnet scene. Its a real
downer and really makes the sysop feel bad. Several users who used to
call activly have stopped calling altogether. I have to keep the DSL
hot for a few more days or I get stuck with a breach of contract fee
of $299! even if I quit a day before my contract expires! Greedy
little bastards!

There is a tool available in msdos for maximus called
bone2cfg. its a 3rd party utility that does just that. it reads the
fidonet.na or whatever the .na file for the other networks is called
and makes the desired squish.cfg, and msgarea.ctl files. It made quick
work of a nightmare for me. The tool is not totally perfect though.
However, you could probally do the same with the bash shell or awk.
