Understood but no such package here and there never will be. My so-called
distribution doesn't supply it simply because it never gets any usage. I
didn't use pkzip even when I used DOS so why would I want or need it now?
If I archive I use a real archiver and there is no compression there as
that has nothing to do with archiving and is a mistake. Archiving and
compression are two completely different things although they can be
combined if that is desirable which sometimes it is. However sometimes it
is a HUGE mistake and thus keeping it as seperate functions is prudent.
Right?

I have no use for it.

Your problem not mine. I never had a use for pkzip ever.

I override all that. I am rethinking things now. I did like your perl
script although that needs some hacking to bring it in sync. Definetly a
good idea though but I think you worried too much about compatibilty with
other OS's which isn't an issue. It only needs to be compatible with the
host machine as the output should take care of compatibilty across the
board. Heck it could even output big endian if you wanted it to. ;-)
Definetly a good strategy methinks. Care to talk about that?
Life is good,
Maurice
