Wow! As I recall, few Americans would set foot on VNAF airplanes. Through
no fault of their own, the VNAF pilots didn't have a good reputation. You
were either of a different mind-set or you really wanted to see your buddy.
DK> Now I can't even remember if the Stars and Stripes had a photo.
If they did, I didn't see it. However as I remember Stars and Stripes only
reported "happy news." Nobody on the Allies side ever made a mistake in
Stars and Stripes. There was a battalion that refused to go forward and it
was a big news item. It was only a couple miles from where I was and I
didn't hear a word about it. The first I learned of it was when I got the
Saint Louis Post Dispatch in the mail with its 3 week old news. -- On the
other hand, when Ted Kennedy's car went off the end of a bridge the Stars and
Stripes carried it in every edition. -- If you put the left wing Saint
Louis Post Dispatch in a blender with the Stars and Stripes you would come
out with one good newspaper.
DK> Yeah, me too. Hope somebody's writing all this stuff down.
I wish I had kept a journal when I was in Nam. Every once in a while I think
about writing what I can remember for future generations but there never
seems to be enough time.
What were you doing there? Service, job, etc. ???
Good talking with you. --- Bob Linenweber ---
PS - If you're a glutton for punishment I'll tell you my war story about the
time I tried to takeoff on the wrong runway at Marble Mountain.
