I am using Client 32 SP2, Win 98, Novell 5 SP3a, 3com 100 Nics & 3 Com
SuperStack II Switches. I was copying the system directory to a backup
directory which worked but I used xcopy/c. I then tried to copy the
contents of the backup directory to another test directory using the
DOS copy command and it lost the network drive and stopped copying. I
believe the error was "the remote computer is not available".

This also happened using the same computer and the Windows Explorer copy
function. I tried it using another machine with Windows Native Client
and a 3Com 10 base Nic with the Dos copy command and the same thing
happened at a different place in copying the same set of files.

I also run a self extracting file on the server in a network drive and
it lost the connection. I copied that exe file to my local drive, ran it
then copied the files to the network directory. That worked.

I was reinstalling Arcserve from my CD and it seemed to have lost the
network drive as well reporting that it could not find the needed
directory. In all cases after this happened any attempt to access a
network drive failed and I had to reboot and login again.

As a test I copied 660 small Word docs to a different directory on the
server using
the DOS copy command and all went fine.

We had been working on the server that day trying to get Pervasive SQL
7.0 to work but that failed for other reasons. The server had been
downed a couple of times during the day however I have seen this type of
problem before but don't know the cause.

Any clues as to the problem?

Thanks
Andy
