SoftCode for PowerBASIC Released Carmel, Calif. ----May 19, 1995 ----
PowerBASIC, Inc. announced today the release of a PowerBASIC version of the
award winning code generator, SoftCode. SoftCode, two-time winner of the
"Data Based Advisor" Readers Choice Award, now has a special version for
PowerBASIC, "PC Magazine's" Editor's Choice as best DOS Basic.
"PowerBASIC keeps gaining in popularity as the DOS Basic programming
standard," reports Alex Kriger, creator of SoftCode. "We feel that no code
generator would be complete without a template for PowerBASIC. PowerBASIC's
extensive functionality and ease-of-use make it a natural for a code
generator like ours."
Programmers can design program screens, layout data entry screens, build
complete menu structures, create indexed databases, and even specify
Hot-Keys to operate their programs. Then SoftCode writes the PowerBASIC
source code based upon the input it has received. SoftCode provides a full
set of design tools; Screen Designer and Applications Outliner, so the
programmer can visually build the basics of an application -- the screens
and menus.
"SoftCode is the most advanced code generator available today," explained
Bob Zale, president of PowerBASIC, Inc. "SoftCode is template-based which
provides precise control over the code generation process. Programmers can
modify the templates or even create their own to produce code just the way
they want it."
SoftCode handles any task: from a small "plug-in" module to a complete
menu-driven database application without requiring any external libraries.
It can visually design pull-down, pop-up or horizontal menus, pick lists,
and data-entry screens. Application design is a simple three-step process.
Programmers draw menus and screens using the Screen Editor and its
Application Outliner. Then, they describe what happens when the user makes
each menu selection. Finally, they detail which Hot-Keys should be active
while the program is running and which actions should be invoked by each.
Once this is done, SoftCode takes over and generates 100%
professional-quality PowerBASIC source code.
SoftCode lets programmers validate data by range, required characters, file
or list checking, pictures and more. It even calculates a field value
based upon other fields and custom formulas. Programmers can use SoftCode
to create complete database operations such as adding, editing, or
searching a record. It supports multiple indexes, user-switchable indexes,
reindexing and packing of data files.
SoftCode has a suggested retail price of $395, but by special arrangement
SoftCode for PowerBASIC is available directly from PowerBASIC, Inc. for
just $99 by calling (800) 780-7707 or (408) 659-8000. Or by FAX at
(408) 659-8008. For a limited time the PowerBASIC, Inc. offering includes
Speed Screen and QuickFonts as free add-on products. PowerBASIC, Inc. is a
privately held corporation based in Carmel, California.
