reinstate it and number the office names:

     aid of the Undeserving, the only  people  I  am  really
     interested  in.   I  am  (1)  the  secretary, and Tommy
     Trafford is (2) treasurer.

  Mrs. Cheveley:  And what is Lord Goring?

  Mabel Chiltern:  Oh! Lord Goring is (3) president.

Do you call  that  a  string?   The  office  name  occur  in
different  clauses, different sentences, and different lines
of dialogue.
