I have never accepted the MS TCO estimates.
My reasoning is quite simple, if licensing costs were an insignificant
portion and support and administration was where the money is at, then MS
would be looking to provide support and administration instead of making
licensing more expensive.
If you are going to look at it from strictly an admin cost pov, then I
would like to know how suddenly windows became so popular even though unix
has existed for years (initial cost doesn't matter so commercial unix is a
valid test of this pov).
