John,
You have discovered the infamous Drake "sticky paint" that occurred during
the production of the 7 line.  No way I have learned, or seen on any of the
reflectors or web sites to clean it, short of stripping and repainting, or
replacing.  The after market cabinets are both expensive and black, instead
of the dark gray of the originals.  The later TR7's came with a better,
textured gray finish, but last ones also from Drake were black.  I need a
good "un-sticky" one for my MN-2700, but all I can find are the TR7 black
ones that some are trying to pass as having slots to "cool" the tuner???  I
didn't help your problem, but maybe that will explain the problems we all
have, hi.
