Replying to a message of Russell Tiedt to Maurice Kinal:

MK>> Ouch. I've heard lately that overall that activity is on the
MK>> decrease here in Canada but Victoria BC seems to be bucking that
MK>> trend for whatever reason. Also heard about a thief getting
MK>> electrocuted attempting to steal coppper wire out of a building that
MK>> is being gutted there. Apparently there were signs posted all over
MK>> the site warning thieves that the wiring was still live and would
MK>> kill them. All concerned were amazed the thief even survived. Last
MK>> I heard he is in hospital with severe burns but is expected to live
MK>> and will be in court to face charges as soon as he is able.

RT> Well here they have kinda perfected the art of stealing high voltage
RT> copper/alumium wire, while it is live from the transmission lines and
RT> pylons, me, I think it is much easier earning an honest buck, that
RT> doing something like that. Last week, they only stole 25 km's
RT> (continuous x 3 seperate wires) worth of high voltage transmission
RT> wire not to far from here, while it was live.

MK>> Unreal. Talk about desperation eh?

RT> Stealing wire might be desperation, getting electrocuted in the
 RT> process is plain stupididty ... :-)

Decades ago at Clark AB in the Philippines, some of the locals would
occasionally raid the antenna farm to steal copper wire. This can safely
be done with receiving antennas, but one guy tried to take down a hot
transmitting antenna. Killed him instantly.
