You used just the right words for something in my brain to click together,
and I now have a mental picture of just how this works. It is pretty
simple, I guess I was confusing too many issues, and looking at the problem
from the wrong end. Thank you. And thanks to everyone else who wrote and
helped me with this.

So Bob was right in the first place.
