If only...! Actually, the FIFO buffer is a mere 16 bytes,
which is sufficient for most applications to avoid missing
occasional serial interrupts. Just don't miss more than 16!
16K would definitely be overkill for just about anything
other than tasks running under Winslows. ;-\
TI has just announced a pin-compatible replacement for the
16550AFN with a larger FIFO. 16750. I'm looking into obtaining
some samples for use in our current OEM prototype circuits.
Looks like quite an improvement.
It'll probably be available in quantity before ZyXEL releases the
2864 series to the general public. [yawn]
