        They probably do when in range of friendly bases, but they might

        Those other carriers were the 27C modification of existing WWII 
ulls,
the modification involved adding an angled flight deck for the new jets that
came on the scene.  Other carriers (or classes) I've seen mentioned were the
Independence (1959), Ranger (1957), Saratoga (1956), Forrestal (1955), and
the Midway (1944).  The Coral Sea (1947) was used for training and other
"contingencies".
        So far I haven't found any print references to examine, but hopefully
this week I can find the time to hit up the main library and see what I can
find.
