when you start using a computer as a home device (like a video recorder)
the form factor may be for things other than mobility. A vcr type device
that could pull from a windows file server and play a/v files on the TV
could be a hot item in the not too distant future which for some of us is
today..
Picture your Tivo device but instead of it's limited capabilities and
monthly charges you were storing series of shows on a server on your home
network. Maybe not stuff from TV, maybe it's video that just about anyone
in the world can put out on the net now a days.
People don't realize how morally judgemental US television is. I downloaded
an episode of Lexx from the internet and found scifi had cut about 10
minutes of it off the version they showed on TV here (mostly the shower
scene). Makes me wonder just how badly TV butchers most of the shows they
put on that were specifically made for TV just not US TV.
I'm not a kid, I don't like the FCC or anyone else telling me I have to
miss part of a story simply because they feel it's inappropriate. (sorry
for the side rant but it pisses me off) I think it should be required that
before each show they have to tell us the exact amount of the show they
have cut. If more people realized how much of what they watch is censored
then things might change. This is supposed to be a free country afterall..
