Well there can be many things going on here. First and
foremost do not use any form of drive geometry translation.
I am almost certain that you are if DOS can see 2GB. This
kludge was invented to help lame operating systems access
more then 1024 cylinders on a hard disk. Similar to the
pathetic kludges invented to allow operating systems from
the same company to see more than 640KB of memory.

Drive geometry translation has many names and ways of being
used. On SCSI systems the SCSI controller will have an
option something similar to "translate for drives > 2GB?".
Say no, NetWare does not need the controller's help. On
(E)IDE systems it is called LBA. Again, NetWare does not
need the BIOS's help so leave it off. Also there may be
some form of device driver being loaded. Delete it if so.

After doing this you will have to reinstall since your
partition table is now hosed. Don't worry, just install DOS
6.22 as normal. But use a reasonable DOS partition size,
like 50MB + installed RAM (for core dumps).

After getting DOS installed delete any and all forms of
memory kludging software, e.g. HIMEM.SYS, EMM386.EXE and the
like. Your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT should be quite
spartan. CONFIG.SYS is FILES=30, BUFFERS=20 and load your
real mode device driver for CD-ROM if you are installing
from CD-ROM. AUTOEXEC.BAT is loading MSCDEX.EXE if needed
for CD-ROM access for the install.
