JC> Did anyone else receive a solicitaion in the mail for a school in
JC> Manderson, South Dakota called "The Wounded Knee District School"?
Nope, I haven't gotten anything like that recently.
JC> The very nice poignant letter, signed by Hobart Yankton, is a plea to
help
JC> this school.
JC>
JC> The problem I have with this soliciation is that if my donation is for
$30
JC> or more, they will send me an authentic Lakota Sioux dream catcher made
on
JC> the reservation. They enclosed a copy of the old ("Long ago when the
world
JC> was very young...") Lakota Sioux legend of the dream catcher. (At least
th
JC> literature doesn't claim my bad dreams will _really_ go away.)
JC>
JC> Does this sound "phony" to anyone else in this echo?
Could be, but it would be a good idea to call the tribal offices and ask
hem.
They may not know about it, but would more than likely have an interest in
finding out about it.
JC> I have no doubt a school on a rez in South Dakota needs help
(particualrly
JC> when school officals _allegedly_ abscond with $2.6 million) but
selling"
JC> dream catchers????
If it's legit, at least you'll get something besides a warm/fuzzy feeling for
having donated to help the school.
