Why?  You could if you want to but I don't understand why anyone would need
to.  Besides that, there aren't any decent POTS based modems being
manufactured anymore.  Also a data line would be an additional cost for a
BBS.  Both economically and technically the so-called high speed tcpip
connections make more sense these days.

Plus all the extra crap someone(s) decided to throw into the raw pkt's just
to spread their ignorance and make you dependent on it.  Now your software
requires it despite the fact it is total BS and has absolutely nothing to
do with messaging, Fido or otherwise.  The real message(s) within a raw pkt
are still ascii despite what any lousy stinkin' tosser says to the
contrary.
