Sort of the same. Oracle bought Sun, who had done most of the support
and development of OpenOffice. The community wasn't happy with
Oracle's plans for it, and forked a version called LibreOffice. My
understanding is that LibreOffice is more advanced than OpenOffice
nowadays.
