GUILTY! AS CHARGED.

When I bought a Regency HR-2 to talk on the 2 Meter Repeater to all the
local folks, and those passing through the area, I sometimes would Time
Out the repeaters 1 (3?) minute time limit while telling a long winded
story to someone.

When I released the Mike Push-To-Talk (PTT) Button while I was wrapped
up in telling my story someone would say: "You Timed It Out Again Ed!".

So I started trying to Release and Push the PTT Button back down as I
was telling my tale, but I would still often Time Out the repeater.

I asked a friend if he could design a circuit to briefly Open the PTT
circuit and Connect it back again, so I could tell my BIG tale without
having to ask what the others heard just before the repeater stopped
transmitting, then I would finish my story.

He used a 555 Timer I.C. and a TO-220 (BIG) Power Transistor with a few
small parts to do the job for me.

He named the circuit "The LID Saver", LID meaning "A poor
operator" in
Ham lingo.

He installed it in my radio and I never timed out the repeater again
when I got Long-Winded.

Oh, this message is an example of me being Long-Winded on the Keyboard
isn't it? HI HI
