I think his word "people" meant -not individuals- but rather
a generic statements about a group and yes group statements
are often limited to their extension to individuals.
Do you know -any- group of individuals, society, that didn't
have a "god?"
If the presumption is correct (society doesn't -need- a "god"),
we would expect to see at least -one- society, group of individuals,
that didn't have a "god."
