Well, I am not sure what a Segunda or a Kimberwick are. I guess
I will have to look at them the next time I am at the Tack Store so I
can see what everyone is talking about.Judging from what everyone is
saying, they are a very useful tool that also doubles as a torture devise
When I first got Walker, we tried a curb, a snaffle, and a Walking
Horse bit on him. He was chewing at them and acted like he wasn't used
to them. I had an old Hackamore so we tried that on him and it worked so
good that I stuck with it. It has a leather strap under the chin and I have
been practicing useing a very light touch with it. If I ever get a Wild
Haire and decide to Show, (Not Likely(G) I would switch him to a bit, but
the hackamore is fine for now.
The Vet said Walker had "The Creeping Crud". It's some kind of
a virus that has been going around up here. He had green stuff comming
out of his nose, he was sneezing, and he had no energy. We loaded him
up with antibiotic's and gave him some giant horse aspirin's (phenylbutazone)
And he is back to his normal self again.
I had a lesson tonite and he was full of energy and fun to ride.
I was practicing sitting, posting, and standing. I will probably use the
sitting and standing seats the most.Sitting for the fast walk and standing
for covering rough ground on trails. It amazes me how he responds at the
slightest touch. Kind of like Power Steering.
I have been feeding Walker timothy grass and TACO pellets(Timothy,
Alfalfa,Corn, and Oats) and he seems to be doing fine on it. My neighbor
is buying some local grass hay for his horses and wanted to know if I wanted
any. Is grass hay ok to use, or am I money ahead to stick with what I am
useing?? Anybody else have any feed suggestions??
